We tend to as humans by things for a need or a want for example

I need food I want more clothes

Consumption:buying goods and services not just for use value, but because of desirability and statements they make about owner and buyer

Use value-the utility of goods i.e car


People amass socially valued goods to portray identity and achieve social status

  1. Way in which media emphasis cosmetic benefits of body maintenance

In advertisements for hair and perfume and they always say youth is a good thing by using younger model for any product even anti ageing cream.

2. Relationship between health and appearance

More healthy enhanced appearance. Way you look is how we see healthy but a person be healthier than someone

  • Inner body-health,welliness and functioning of the body, ability to fight disease and appear youthful looking
  • Outer body appearance and movement of body surveillance and aesthetics

  • Habitus shapes taste- not individual choice part of collective ideas
  • Related to the body in terms of body maintenance i.e food and exercise people are likely to exercise if they are well educated ( understand the positive benefits)
