The piece “Your body is a battleground” shows an image of a woman one side a normal image the other has been edited to give a x-ray look using the bold caption to show a bold message. Kruger is an American conceptual artist. Her work is many black and white photographs which have been overlaid with declarative captions these are usually in white on red. The captions usually include “you”, “your”, “I”, “we”, and “they”, addressing cultural constructions of power, identity, and sexuality. Much of Kruger’s work pairs found photographs with pithy and assertive text that challenges the viewer. She develops her ideas on a computer, later transferring the results to images. Much of her text calls attention to ideas such as feminism, consumerism, and individual autonomy and desire, frequently appropriating images from mainstream magazines and using her bold phrases to frame them in a new context.
This photo is taken of a women one side is a portrait photo the other is the same image but edited to give it x-ray look. This is then been edited to portray a message to make a statement. This is showing the struggles of being a woman. Having to make everything look perfect to please men.
The photographer has chose this image of the women using two different edited sides. This is to show a message using the bold magazine words. This make the image have a different angle and meaning.
This work isn’t all about the photo the message make you stop and think about what the image is trying to show. With this I think it trying to state that beauty is portrayed in different ways.
This shows a image of a girl pulling a face with the caption money can buy you love this is not the normal caption as you think it would say money cant buy love. The content of this image I think has come from the film Annie who was bought to give love to that family.
The photographer has chose this image of the girl using the caption Money can buy you love I think this gives the image a different meaning to what it would have been if it was just the image.
This work isn’t all about the photo the message make you stop and think about what the image is trying to show. I think this image is trying to show something different to the caption but because they are together it give it a whole different meaning that the girl needs money for love.
This Photographer / artist is the type of typography that we could use for our Joe Lareta project we could screen print the letters over the top of the illustration. I feel that this work would help should the story it we used this style of typography on one of the cushions.
