This is the story board for my animation the idea behind it is showing the long process of making a water bottle and then showing the simpleness of turning on a tap. My script for this animation will be spoken by my sister

The Script:

The process of making a plastic firstly evolves the extraction of oil from the earth.

This then gets taken to a factory where the oil is made into plastic pellets.

This is then where this is heated up into the mold of a water bottle.

They are then taken to get filled up with water and every hour more than a million bottles are made.

These are then taken to the UK where we find them in our shop where Typically bottled water retails at up to 500 times more than the price of tap water.

Why do this when you could just turn on the tap.

Tap on for a better future.

Animation for Direct Me

For my animation I wanted it to be the logo moving. My idea was to make the lines move to show the path being made. I also wanted the text to type itself or create itself using shapes.

I began with import all three part of my logo. This was so I could make them move separately. I first wanted to make the line of my mark move to make the path and meet in the middle. I also wanted to make the type move to create the letters whilst the path is being made.

I did this by in my first comp adding all my image to make my logo separate and lining them up so they displayed my logo. I right clicked on the orange line and changed the vector into a shape. I then added a path ,stroke and a trim path. In Trim path I put both the start and the end to 0.0% then at 4 second I changed the percentage to 100% I then pressed the path timer at the begging and this allowed the line to draw itself. I did the same for the purple line and the Direct Me words. Screen Shot 2017-11-06 at 11.30.57.png

After I had my logo moving I want to add the lines from my logo coming in before had all over the screen. To do this I used another comp and added the lines how I wanted them on the screen and used the same technique as before but for some of the line I changed them so they started from a different end.

Screen Shot 2017-11-06 at 11.34.42.png

I also was told in my tutorial that I would need a strap line at the end to some up my brand. So I used a third comp and added the work Direct, explore and enjoy separately so I could use them to move around the screen after my logo. I wanted each word come from a different direction. So I used position and placed them off the screen at the beginning then change the percentage at 4.00 seconds so they would all move on the screen.

My final animation is displayed below:

Are you becoming a schmombie? – Final Animation

A lot of work has gone into this animation once we had all four parts of the animation which started with the dave getting taken into the phone stomach. This part I created using position tool to make the teeth move up and down and also rotation tool to make dave look like he getting sucked in. The next part moved on to Georges where he’s inside the stomach. This is where all these apps appear and he try to fight them off. This part was very time consuming, which is why I did the next part. This part was the phone struggling and getting overwhelmed and being sick because of all the apps and notifications. This then leads on to him coming out of the huge pile of apps and morphing into a Schmombie. Allegra did this part which was very complicated to get the three different stages to morph from one to the other smoothly.  Once the many part of the animation was done, I finished the Printed Emphmera and Allegra but the animation all together adding titles and sounds in certain part with a backing track behind.

The music we used in the animation:

Toward this project I think at first I didn’t really know what we were doing and unsure how we were going to approach this task. I felt we had to many idea and took a while to stick to one idea. Once we finally settled on idea the ideas really all came at once. We produced the story board well together. I also feel once we had our story board and our illustration we did kind of stall on creating the anumation because I think we all were scared on how we were going to turn our idea into a atchally animation. I feel for me personally the feedback after our presentation really helped me. As we had to think about how big our idea was and it allow us to cut down the story board and stick to the most important part that really showed the issue. It also made us think about the solution which we decided there wasn’t really a solution more of making people realise they were addicted to social media. I personally think the presentation and the feedback helped me to kick start the animation and once we al got on to aftereffect it made it easier to visualise the idea. The way we worked splitting the animation worked well. I also feel we communicated well when it came to what there was left to do and who felt they could do it. I feel I tried to help everywhere I could doing two part of the animation and given the animation a ending. We also used the ending “Are you becoming a Schmombie?” and all decided I could then turn that into a logo and use this on everything else. We also kick started the printed emphmera from a poster idea I had. We then all decided the poster idea was to save and that we would create a book cover. Once i had created a book cover, the idea of a short story of the animation using the illustration came. We all helped each other with suggestion on how to improve our parts of the project. I think working together in the studio helped because we could really see what each other was doing and help when needed.

Below is a link to out final animation

For this project we were present all our work at a expedition we had our printed ephemera and our digital ephemera which we placed in context. We also had example of badges and stickers and the sticker I took further and atchally made them into sticker using a sticker maker. I felt this gave the board more of a child like feel to stick in with the theme of a children book and a playful animation.

Digital Ephemera- Gif

Tuesday 21st March

For our Digital Ephemera we decided as a group we wanted to use a part of the animation that most stood out and use that and but it into a format of a gif. We used the part where it morphs from Dave to a Schmombie then ended with the are you becoming a Schmombie?.

We used this part as we felt this was a key feature in our animation showing the change of someone addicted to social media. We also felt this would work the most on making people aware that they are a Schmombie as well.

Our digital ephemera we also wanted to show in context so what out campaign would look like in a digital context. We used twitter to show what our campaign would look like on a social media platform. We did feel we were contradicting our self by using a digital format when we are telling people to be aware of being addicted to social media. We thought we could use the tag line “if your reading this then is it already to late. We also screen shot picture of what the moving GIF would look like on a mobile phone.

We also needed to think about how this would look in the expedition so we first displayed these on two separate A4 piece but when we went to display them it didn’t look strong enough. We went back and put it all together on an A3 piece of paper.

This shows our digital ephemera in context allowing people to know what it would look like if we used it in the context. I believe this gif works well in a digital context because it shows the catch line are you becoming a Schmombie well.

Social Media Addiction – feedback

Monday 13th March

Today we presented to the rest of the class all of our idea we had so far. We presented our initial ideas and how we got to the idea of social media. We showed all of our through processes and our work so far towards making the animation. Although we hadn’t started out animation yet we had all the planning and digital work ready to get going.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We went through each slide and explained out plans for our animation and our feedback was all good everyone loved our approach with the “schmombie” and the idea of questioning if we are one at the end of the presentation. Also we were told that we could cut it down as it is three separate ideas and would work fine with just one so after we have presented we will discuss weather we want to cut it and if so what part we will use.

When we discussed as a group what we were going to do we decided we liked the idea of the person morfing into a zombie so we were going to start with the flash light idea and go from there. With his being taken inside and then morfed. We also were told to look into what our printed emphera was going to be and we think we might do a poster with the quote “Dont be a “schmombie” and then a gif of it morfing. I think this will all work well together.

Overall I think presenting our work so far gave us more ideas and allows us to plan how we were going to start the animation. It also made us reconsider doing the whole story board so we are looking at starting from the the mobile phone chomping the boy and go from there because we liked the idea of concentrating on the person morfing into a schmombies.

Social Media Addiction

Tuesday 14th March

Today we as a group came together and showed the process we made on the animation or on the characters. George had started the middle part where the emojis and apps pop in and out. I had been working on the poster and just needed everyone opinion on what font and colours to use.

I started of with a blue background with the zombie in the middle and the text “Are you a schmombie?”but I felt that the word “schmombie needed to be in a zombie like green font. So i used sketches that had been done of the word and using the pen tool copied it into illustrator. This was creating a new font to make our catch phrase stand out more.

Schmombie poster

This was the poster I came up but when speaking to the group we decided the zombie needed adjustment and a shadow on the floor and also have some of the social media floating in the background.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 18.00.28

I think this poster works well because it apply to everyone and I think the question make you think about the effect of social media and phone on your life. We aren’t saying its a bad thing just to be aware of how much you use it.

I also looked at using the lettering in the end of our animation and using effect to make the letter swirl so you don’t straight away know what it says. Then for a few second you see it all and the it ripple of the screen. This is the same lettering as used above.

This poster worked well but we have now decided that we are going to use this poster as a front cover for a booklet. This is going to read like a children book. Having a little story to go with it.

Social Media Project – Character Creation

Today I spent the day using illustrator to create the two main characters of our animation. I wasn’t very confident in illustrator so i spent a hour getting my barking on the software before I attempted my character. I also watched a youtube video to give me a insight on how to create easy characters. I used the sketches allegra had done to follow and create the main character. I started of using line and i found it hard to get the correct shape i wanted. I used video to help me and i found this helpful video which i will link below.

I then decided to use shape to create it which was easier and looked more realistic. I made this guy based of the drawing and the discussion we had as a group we decided we wanted the character skinny with curly ginger hair so i used a red top as it went best with the hair. fullsizeoutput_964

When i showed my group they loved it but felt he needed glasses and kneecap so when we animate it the knees look more realistic and more easier. I also added little detail to the hair and eyes to make it come more to life.

We also are going to have this character morfed into a zombie so I used sketches from Allegra and this character to make my zombie we as a team discussed colours and the way we wanted it to look I kept with the same style using shape and the same colour scheme.

I really enjoyed using illustrated as I’m not the best at sketches and drawing i felt this really worked for me as I really like using new program to broaden my skills. I used a simple video to give me the initial idea on how to approach it. I then took the video and the skills I learnt and play around with them to make these two character to the best of my abilities.
